Lunch Break in Suceava

OUR TOUR of Maramures and Bucovina was broken up with a visit to the childhood home of our guide, Sorin. We were treated to lunch and a performance - music played through a walnut shell (watch the performance below).

As a light rain fell around us, a spread of fresh fruits and vegetables, a lovely dense bread and a bottle of Romanian palinka was served by Sorin’s mother, in her brightly-colored house dress. She then looked on proudly as Sorin’s father entertained our group.

Dining with Sorin’s parents, they provided a pleasant lunch picked mostly right from the backyard garden, complete with a 100-proof Romanian moonshine called palinka.
